Asia Archery statistics

As far as I know, there is no official statistics existing, from each country member of Barebow ASIA we made this statistics. We think this may make some idea of current situation on ASIA Modern bow population

The statistics is from the answers of the member countries of Barebow ASIA and summed up by BB Japan. 　BB ASIA is a friendship gathering of Asian Barebow lovers which has originally started 2 BB lovers; an Malaysian BB archer and an Indonesian archer who live in Thailand. They contacted me through an AJAF (Japan Archery Federation) member who started the “Remote Archery” movement during COVID 19 period. Before then they already started Barebow ASEAN and held Barebow dedicated international tournament March 2023 in Malaysia. (Named Barebow ASEAN 2023) After I joined the group, they changed the name to Barebow ASIA as Japan is not an ASEAN member.

Barebow ASIA , they have representative chat through WhatsApps and inside there, we share a lot of information. this statistics has made through their estimation from each country. It is not an official ( who does collect official statistics?) figure but an feeling, experience and their own sense . Please enjoy the result and find how the archery scene of ASIA looks like.

Barebow ASIA

Barebow ASIA is a friendship community of Barebow lovers in ASIA and aiming to get more attention to barebow segment of archery. This year 2024, Barebow dedicated tournament will be held at Yogyakarta Indonesia.

Mr. Yoyok the owner of this event sponsor has called country representatives in January 2024 to have a pre-visit of the site and organized first Barebow ASIA country representative meeting.

Asia Modern Bow by Bow division

From the statistics collected from member country representatives, Total modern bow archery population in Asia is around 39,000 (Not include some countries such as China, Taiwan, etc as we have no repesentatives from those countries yet) and the biggest is Japan 12,000 then Indonesia 10,500.
interesting thing is the portion of RC,CP, BB is quite different between the countries.

Some countries does not have hobby archers therefore no BB archer existing. (BB department is not in Olympic games)

Analysis by population

This graph shows 2 biggest population of modern bow is Japan and Indonesia. I presume there should be a huge population in China (Mainland) and Korea but we still do not have those data because BB Asia, the source of data, has no members from there. It is quite normal that we have only Barebow lovers at the community thus those countries which does not have BB archers is not in the BB ASIA.

The portion by bow division is quite different in each countries.

Bow division wise population

From the bow division wise population, Indonesia is quite unique position. Barebow population, Compound bow population % is quite high at the country, therefore the portion occupying by bow division, They occupy quite high population in those categories.
