Overview and Background
Barebow Asia 2024, which was announced and called for entry in the January issue of this Archery Magazine and featured an article about a pre-visit to the site by Mr.Taichi Banno in the March issue, was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia for three days from May 16.
Four from Japan participated. A total of 406 participants participated, including 145 from overseas outside the host country, Indonesia
The Entry of overseas participants began on December 1, but the overseas quota was filled in 48 hours, and it was a start to show the high level of archery enthusiasm in Asia.
In March 2023, the tournament was held in Malaysia as Barebow ASEAN at that time, and in May of the same year, Japan participated in this gathering, and expanded its activities as Barebow ASIA, and this time Pakistan, China, and Japan outside ASEAN participated in the competition. What started as a Facebook exchange between Barebow enthusiasts has grown and expanded at a global rate.
The friendship from the Remote Archery tournament
Japanese archer, who regretted that high school students could not compete under COVID19, held a “remote archery tournament” through Face Book.
Eventually, due to the sense of stagnation under COVID19, it became an event in which archers, including medalists from all over the world, participated, and in Asia, Japan connected with archers from Malaysia and Indonesia, which is the core of BB ASIA.
Japan’s participation may have contributed to the development of BB ASIA, which expanded the region.
Archery in ASIA overview
After Participating in this tournament
This was a splendid moments that this tournaments is where people could experience that modern archery connects people as a culture that transcends race, nationality, religion, language, age, and gender. I would like to express my gratitude that as the gift form the heaven, for being able to participate in such a peace festival while there are many people suffering from wars and natural disasters around the world, and for being able to experience and experience the splendor of archery as a borderless culture.
Under the leadership of Mr. Yoyok of Waroeng SS, the president of the archery association and main sponsor of the archery association in Yogyakarta, the ancient capital of Indonesia, all events were managed at a level that exceeded the expectations of the participants.
The hospitality begins with a pick up at airport and police vehicle that led the fleet of all overseas archers from the airport and drops them off at their hotels. Lunch on the first day was prepared for the players in a free buffet style and encourage them to interact with each other. Thanks to this, the interaction of friendship between the players was lively and memorable.
Mr. Taichi Banno, who joined us earlier in the Pre-visit (article in the January issue), has captivated Asian archers with his personality and English skills, and thanks to this, Japan players are popular everywhere this time. We enjoyed offers to shake hands and take a pictures with him. Please refer to the following page for the organizer’s YouTube and Instagram videos.
